The Flash High Sync and Fill-In

The Flash High Sync and Fill-In

The flash is not an object to be used only in situations of lack of light but its utility is also undoubted in full sun conditions, in particular when the subject from the shoulders to the light source is positioned to the side or to the latter.

The presence of the sun laterally generates on the subject of the shadows that, depending on the position of the same light can also be particularly hard by losing image detailsĀ  akusaraprosound. The extremes to is when, for example, the sun (or light source) is behind the subject, maybe even visible in the scene properly expose the scene means heavily under-expose the figure in the foreground, standing at the silhouette limit .

Situations so they can be bothersome and change deeply the photograph that we would like to do in our help comes, however, fill flash, commonly called fill-in.
High sync and Fill-In Fill-In

This technique is simple and effective it enables the camera to properly expose the background (so very quickly) and compensates the exposure of the person by means of a lightning flash. In order to do this, remember to flash sync mode set in high- and compensate one stop less (-1) the flash exposure.

As you can see from the two pictures, the camera has properly exposed background but, accordingly (very short time shooting), he underexposed the person in the foreground, making it almost black. In the second picture the flash flash of light illuminated the subject, in fact exposing properly and did not alter the exposure of the background.

Eye obviously not to overdo it if we do not perform the exposure of the flash correction, you might have a result like this

The cure is worse than the disease if in the first picture the cat was underexposed, the second is overexposed.

Eye to integrated flash, those pop-ups in many cameras, especially SLR, the fill-in is automatic. In backlit situations, the flash might get in automatically depending creating perhaps an unwanted effect get to know your camera and tested the goodness of the automatic fill-in. And correct any problems by reducing the flash output,

The fill in can be also used as fill-flash when the shadows are soft and the contrast between the foreground and background is not very high, use the fill in might be overkill. To brighten the subject heads the flash head upwards (pointing for example just above the subject), it brings out the white reflective panel (all flashes have a hidden above the head), and you use the flash bounce light
