The Music

Dr. Winter has successfully combined his musical talents with his academic training to develop musical parodies of contemporary songs that teach about food and health.  Songs address a variety of food-related topics and involve numerous musical styles including rock, pop, rap, country, latin, disco, and blues.

CDs and DVDs

More than 20,000 copies of Dr. Winter’s self-produced audio CD “Still Stayin’ Alive” and more than 7,000 copies of his “Fun With Food Safety” animated DVDs have been distributed throughout the world.  To order your own copies, just click on the “Food Safety Music Store” link on the right.

Research findings

Subjects receiving Dr. Winter’s music parodies incorporated into traditional food safety educational curricula, including high school students, food service workers, and culinary arts students, demonstrated a greater understanding of food safety concepts than did those who did not receive the music.  This work was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  Research findings have been published in the Journal of Food Science Education and in Food Protection Trends.
